26 Jun ASAL statement about proposed Higher Education funding restructure
As the Australian Parliament enters a period of reflection on their vote on the current proposal to restructure Higher Education funding, The Association for the Study of Australian Literature (ASAL) urges our Federal representatives to only support policy that increases equitable access to Higher Education across all disciplines.
In particular, we appeal to Members of Parliament to consider the urgent significance of accessible tertiary education in Humanities and Creative Arts – a significance clearly registered in the heartfelt response of the general public to the proposed funding changes. ASAL urges the strongest possible action to create an evenly funded and diverse Higher Education sector that gives all secondary sector graduates the intellectual opportunities they deserve. This action will foster the critical, creative and contextualised thinking that Australia needs, not only to meet the demands of the future, but to flourish.
