Vale David Malouf

Vale David Malouf

It is with much sadness that ASAL acknowledges the passing of one of Australia’s major writers, David Malouf.  Among his many international awards and accolades, David Malouf was the three-time recipient of the ALS Gold Medal – in 2010 for his last novel, Ransom; in 1983 (the first time ASAL had carriage of the award) for Child’s Play; Fly Away Peter; and in 1974 for Neighbours in a Thicket. As Brigid Rooney writes in her elegant tribute to David Malouf in The Conversation, “He will be a remembered as a writer of wisdom, grace and generosity, and for the richness of his poetic imagination. He will be remembered for his curiosity and dedication to literature. He’ll be remembered as someone not bowed down, as only lightly touched, by time.”
